Nano steaks pokers
As you can probably tell, poker's been on the back-burner for me since Black Friday. As soon as I heard the news I panic-withdrew my entire Stars and FTP rolls so I haven't really had the means to grind, although my motivation's been lacking a bit so I'm not that bothered. I did stick $100 back on FTP though, just for a laugh, and I've been playing some 1c/2c 6max with that... after my exams I think it's a good time for me to drop the tables down and go back to 6max again.
I know I've done this before with varying degrees of success, but after Black Friday I don't see mass-tabling full ring as a great option any more. It's a lot harder to get as much "quality" volume in with the smaller player pool so I'd rather try to actually get good at poker. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with being an FPP pro and I think high-volume grinders get a lot of unfair criticism for being bad or whatever (I mean RB is money at the end of the day), but at the moment I think it's a better option to take another shot at improving and trying to stick with playing fewer tables.
So for now, I'm gonna be messing around at 6max with pretty aggressive BRM, most likely taking a shot at 20BI and dropping back down at 15BI, until I reach 100NL or thereabouts, i.e. making a reasonable hourly. Probably not gonna bother posting 2NL graphs (unless someone actually gives a fuck, lol) but I'll post updates from time to time.
Not sure where this leaves my Supernova chase, as I have a decent number of FPPs now (about $1k worth, I think). I may decide to grind it out and hit Supernova so I get decent value for my FPPs, otherwise I'll have to just grind there for a month and hit Platinum so I get a reasonable exchange rate. Alternatively I could grind FPP satellites since this is probably just a one-off thing. Either way I don't think the difference will be more than $200 or so, so I'm not that fussed.
Equity Calculator
Yesterday I was throwing together a draft of the interface for my equity calculator. One of the annoying things about software development is that you can write a program that solves a really difficult problem and output the results in a console, but that means sod all to most people. As the resident computer geek you get people watching you type "ls" in a command line and saying "woah that looks crazy, are you hacking or something?" and to avoid the pains of explaining what a command line is in laymans terms, you nod and say "yeah, hacking".

It's alive!
It's nice to have something to show for your efforts. At the moment it's pretty much just a clone of PokerStove, but I'll be working on refining the interface and adding a few features Stove doesn't have, e.g. selecting more hand groups such as all Axs, Axo, Kxs etc; only showing 2 players by default (by far the most common scenario) and having a button to add more rather than showing all 10; hand weighting (either by # of combos or by percentages).

The UI looks great. LOL about the command line. There was a thread in NVG about PokerStars losing a hand history when their back end server crashed (the client server apparently kept running briefly hence the discrepancy). So much ignorance in the thread about how computers really work but I didn't have the heart to correct people.
Hey, I enjoy your blog. I'm getting more into programming myself and I also blog about poker, and my current SNE pursuit. If you're interested in swapping links drop me a line!
