July is over!

So July is pretty much over for me now, I'm off to Spain from Sunday until 4th August, so I probs won't be playing any more hands this month. All in all, this month was a bit disappointing although it's fair to say I made a good recovery towards the end. Graph:

Totals:
+$108 at 100NL
+$432 at 50NL
+$906 RB
+$75 bonus
+$75 coaching
+$259 staking
----------------------
+$1855 total

Pace is about $8k so I'm pretty far behind but I put that down to running and playing bad early in the month, and dropping down to 50NL. I think moving back to 50NL was a bad idea since it stunts my growth so much; I'm really overrolled for 100NL so there's really no reason for me to drop down unless I feel I'm -EV at a certain stake (although perhaps I was at the time, since I was spewing so much).

Anyways, holiday should be fun and a break from poker is pretty welcome right now.

I finished my month off with a decent session of 100NL, got into a couple of interesting spots vs a really aggro reg, 25/20 with 11% 3bet over a decent sample. I think I played both spots fine but if you have a different opinion please post it.

BTN was a reg, folded to 3bets quite a lot. Obviously I can't really flat with BB behind me so I 3bet. I feel an over-aggro reg like this is going to think that everyone else 3bets a lot more than they actually do, so even though my image was pretty tight on that table he probably thinks it's a great spot to cold 4b bluff (which I think is fine). His sizing is a bit fishy though, I would expect him to go to 24bbs or so with a legit hand, imo most regs aren't all that consistent with their sizing in spots like this. If he calls, I figure KJs doesn't do too badly vs his range (although I would rather have something like 22-77). So I stick it in and he snap folds.

Later in the session, same table - having watched Newman's DC vid on exactly this kinda spot, I think it's a good spot to "polarise" my range (even though it's not polarised because both of us rarely have 3x or 87s). I think he almost always has a bluff-catcher so I shove river, I think the weakest hand I value shove is J9s since he could potentially be trying to induce with something like J7s. He ended up snapping river.

Nice OBV for the second one. How often is he showing up with a straight which is checked on the river? Third one works out nicely for you as well...

Not sure if you would rather have 22-77. Against a likely calling range of AK, AQs, TT+ you have about 30.8% equity with KJs. Sure, with 22-77 you have 31.5-33% equity, but then you have to take into account card removal effects.

I remember from a DC video (I think it was Professor Plotkin) there was a very similar situation to this except it was 4-bet bluffing not 5-bet bluffing. When you have KJ they only have 40 combinations of AA-TT, AK, AQs, while when you have 22-77 they have the full 50. This impacts your fold equity hugely and outweighs the slight pips of equity with 22-77.

@Poker Meister - I would expect him to cbet 87s, and there are not many 3x hands that don't cbet flop, except maaaybe J3s. He probably cbets 63s/53s/33 because they are so vulnerable. Also he probably just jams a straight on the river because he knows it looks so fishy.

@Ken - thanks, I'll check that out. Recently I've been watching some HU vids (FWF's Headhunter series) where it's pretty standard to 4b shove or 5b shove small PPs vs an aggressive 3bettor/4bettor. I guess the ranges are a bit different here in a cold 4b spot, his value range is probably a bit tighter so the KJ blockers might be more significant.
