Back in the black

It's been a few days since my last update so here's my graph of July so far, I'm officially up a few hundred dollars after coaching/RB/bonuses so hooray, it only took 55k hands lol.

I haven't been putting in anywhere near as much volume the past week or so, but I think in the past few days I've stopped paying people off anywhere near as much and I've been running a bit better, so my blue line seems like it's back to normal instead of breakeven (which was pretty disastrous, considering it's been shooting upwards for over half a million hands). I guess a picture's worth a thousand words, compare the last 1/3 of the graph to the rest:

Something I've been testing out recently is single-tabling a $1 or $2 donkament while grinding cash. As much as I suck at tournies I think I can probably break even in these since they're so soft. More importantly, I find the synchronised breaks help a ton - it's a good way to enforce a 5 minute break every hour which I think is pretty important. It gives me a few mins to take a leak, get a drink and relax for a bit which keeps me a lot happier. I also find I play longer sessions as a result, since I'm less stressed and feel kinda committed to finishing the tourney before I quit, just in case I manage to bink something. Just another little experiment and I think it's quite a fun one so I recommend giving it a try!

Btw, a heads up - it looks like we'll be seeing a new reg at the tables soon, my younger brother is turning 18 soon and seems interested in learning to play. He's always complaining about how busto he is and how he could do with some income, so I let him watch me grinding today, and we donked about at 2NL for a bit afterwards. He seems to be picking it up incredibly fast, or at least much faster than I did when I was a noob - he's already got down the basics of position, hand selection and bet sizing, which is not bad after one session... maybe I'm just an awesome coach :P

I think it would have helped a lot if I had anyone decent teach me the basic fundamentals when I first started. You'll definitely find people learning faster than you when they have someone like that.
